Summer is over?

I found this picture and quote here, on a dormant blog that (although it appears to be compiled by a somewhat angst-ridden teenage girl) contains many gems.

"And I’m going to do something this summer. I’m going to change something. I’m going to make someone never forget me. I’m going to make this summer worth my time."

Quote

"You take a born-pretty girl and you dress her up in pretty things, curl her pretty hair and she becomes empty, vacuous. The only thing she can claim as a self identity is her one dimensional beauty. But take a pretty girl and throw some shit on her, and make her fight her way out of it and she'll grow to be other-worldy radiant and a force to be reckoned with."

Alphabet Playlist - "If I Fall" - Aqualung

Perfection.

Swept away
By the wonder of it all
So amazed
Never saw it coming
Left me dazed
And I don't know where to turn

Here and now
Seems I'm standing on the edge
Looking down
I can clearly see your face
In the crowd
Makes me feel I'm not alone

If I fall
Will you catch me?

Seems to me
I'm exactly where I dreamt
I would be
And the view from here is
Something to see
But I need a hand to hold on to

If I fall
Will you catch me?

Lyrics

I can't stop listening to "I Will Light You on Fire" (posted a few days ago).

And you know this requires discussion
Or preferably, a concussion
Why can't we talk about something good?

Alphabet Playlist - "I Melt With You" - Modern English

This song is out of order because it was incorrectly named "I'll Stop the World and Melt With You" but I am still posting it.
I want someone to stand outside my window and play this on a boombox. This song reeks of nostalgia, even though I wasn't alive when it was released.

Alphabet Playlist - "I'll Follow the Sun" - The Beatles

The first time I really listened to this song (and every time since), it reminded me of Veronica.

One day you'll look to see I've gone
For tomorrow may rain,
so I'll follow the sun

Some day you'll know I was the one
But tomorrow may rain,
so I'll follow the sun

And now the time has come
and, my love, I must go
And though I lose a friend
In the end you will know, oh

One day you'll find that I have gone
But tomorrow may rain,
so I'll follow the sun
But tomorrow may rain,
so I'll follow the sun

And now the time has come
and, my love, I must go
And though I lose a friend
In the end you will know, oh

One day you'll find that I have gone
But tomorrow may rain,
so I'll follow the sun

Alphabet Project - "I Will Light You On Fire" - Golden Shoulders

No images in this video, but I discovered and listened to it about 15 times yesterday, so I must post. This song initially caught my attention because I thought it sounded like a Morning Benders track I hadn't heard before.

"I Wish You Were Here" lyrics

I dig my toes into the sand
The ocean looks like a thousand diamonds
Strewn across a blue blanket
I lean against the wind
Pretend that I am weightless
And in this moment I am happy...happy

"Lament" - Mount Moriah

You can download this for free off the Current Song of the Day podcast.
I heard this song for the first time the other day, thus began my love affair with "Lament" . . .

Alphabet Project - "I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You" - Colin Hay

The top rated youtube comment on this video says "Playing something like this requires great heart, whiskey, love, and honesty."
Most of the best things in life do, I guess.

I drink good coffee every morning
Comes from a place that's far away
And when I'm done I feel like talking
Without you here there is less to say
I don't want you thinking I'm unhappy
What is closer to the truth
That if I lived till I was 102
I just don't think I'll ever get over you
I'm no longer moved to drink strong whiskey
'Cause I shook the hand of time and I knew
That if I lived till I could no longer climb my stairs
I just don't think I'll ever get over you
Your face it dances and it haunts me
Your laughter's still ringing in my ears
I still find pieces of your presence here
Even after all these years
But I don't want you thinking I don't get asked to dinner
'Cause I'm here to say that I sometimes do
Even though I may soon feel the touch of love
I just don't think I'll ever get over you
If I lived till I was 102
I just don't think I'll ever get over you

Stephen Colbert on Sea Turtles

"You've never done anything wrong?"- Campaign advisor
"I assaulted a sea turtle with a flashlight when I was 17." - Stephen Colbert
"Why did you do that?"
"I was high and I thought it was a monster."
"Okay so you now acknowledge that you assaulted wildlife"
"An endangered species"
"I would suggest that this not be part of this interview and the you not use this to help fundraise"
"So edit this out?"
"Definitely."
"I apologize . . . it was a mistake to talk about assaulting a sea turtle."

Alphabet Project - "I Don't Know What to Do" - Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson

An unlikely duo, Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson teamed up to create the enjoyable album, Break Up. Here is a live version from The Interface, which is arguably better than the album version:

Alphabet Project - "How It Ends" by DeVotchKa

It may have seemed that I forgot about the alphabet project! Not the case. Once again, I am going through all of my iTunes music alphabetically and am posting highlights and discoveries here.

Today's discovery is "How It Ends" by DeVotchKa. This is especially notable because (at the risk of losing one to three of my three readers) I don't really like DeVotchKa. I find myself frequently skipping past their songs, but this song is unlike most of the others: for one, the accordion that often overwhelms me is almost nonexistent. The lyrics are sad and pretty and I looove the string instruments. The video doesn't thrill me, but I am amused and slightly confused by the "Up Next" youtube video option: "Somewhere Over the Rainbow by that giant Hawaiian man.

I hope you enjoy:

Fun fact: DeVotchKa was named after the Russian word for "girl," devochka (девочка).

Alphabet Project - "Hospital" by Lydia

My new idea for keeping this blog alive will reveal a certain degree of my OCD. For the past few months, I have been sporadically but systematically going through all the songs in my iTunes . . . alphabetically.
It has unearthed a few gems, and I am going to try to post the highlights here.

Since I am on the H's, today I discovered "Hospital" by Lydia. It is off their album Illuminate (2008), which I'm not as familiar with but like so far. I spent a few years of my life being obsessed with the album This December; It's One More And I'm Free (2005 - please check it out). And I just found out there's a new album I don't have yet! Assailants . . . I must have it.
